Jhundon De Leon Mendi

Project Student

UoB | Collaborative Teaching Laboratory

Jhundon is pursuing a Master’s degree in Cognitive Neuroimaging and Data Science (Computational Neuroscience) jointly with the School of Psychology and School of Computer Science. His academic and professional journey is driven by a curiosity about how Virtual Reality (VR) can be leveraged to understand and influence human behavior within controlled virtual environments and development of educational content using digital technologies to enhance interactions.

Research and Academic Projects

  • Master’s Dissertation: His current research centers on the hypothesis that the social map formed during free exploration can be mathematically reduced to create a localised “Optimal Social Environment.” This aims to reduce cognitive load and physical occlusion without sacrificing the user’s sense of Social Presence in VR.

  • Professional Project: His aims at the CTL is to established a framework to allow educators at the University from partner school to utilise XR technologies to deliver content involving 3D environments, complex interactions, or enhance the teaching for students.

  • Bachelor’s Project: Previously, he focused on creating a framework to test eye-tracking within VR. He developed a simulation to measure data quality in 3D interception tasks, aiding the creation of inbuilt eye-tracking tests for the VR-Lab with an emphasis on accuracy and hardware performance.

Experiences

  • Collaborative Teaching Laboratory (CTL): Jhundon currently serves as a Full-Time Learning Experience Developer. In this role, he creates educational resources used by students across nine STEM departments. He leverages his background as an XR developer to integrate Extended Reality technologies directly into university teaching.

  • VR Lab (2024–2025): He previously worked with the VR Lab, managing website maintenance and handling lab administration as his main focus was on the code maintainance for the ARME project.

Jhundon’s broader interests span Human-Computer Interaction, Robotics, Extended Realities, and Programming. He actively contributes to the academic community as an ambassador for the School of Computer Science. Within the student community, he has been a pivotal figure for the Virtual Reality Society (UBVR). After serving as Chair for the 2023/24 and 2024/25 academic years—where he fostered a collaborative environment for XR enthusiasts, he now continues to support the society as Secretary, helping to develop resources and opportunities for students in this field.
